City Island Bridge: End of an Era

City Island is a very unique part of New York City. Located in the Northeast Bronx, this 1.5 mile long island is reminiscent of a New England fishing village. Unless you have a boat, the City Island Bridge is the only way to get there and back. Originally built of wood, a replacement steel bridge was completed in 1901. On December 18 2015, this bridge carried it's final passengers, and was closed forever. A temporary bridge, constructed over the past two years, will serve the island until the old bridge is demolished, and a permanent replacement is built in it's place. The full story of the new City Island Bridge can be found here: facebook.com/birthofabridge/?ref=aymt_homepage_panel Featuring music licensed from Marmoset Music.
